Nowhere bar signage
This entry is a proposal and basic design for new signage for Nowhere Bar, to increase its visibility in Downtown Athens, Georgia.
The bar
Nowhere Bar is a business located north of Clayton Road on Lumpkin Street in Athens, Georgia. Located directly across the street from the Georgia Theatre and near the 40 Watt Club, the bar is placed on a one-way street going north. The property features a unique protruding roof section, however it does not possess any obvious signage visible to northbound traffic on Lumpkin. Furthermore, signage already present in front of the bar makes the property appear to traffic as being associated with a neighboring pharmacy.
Current signage
Currently, the only signage for the bar consists of a vinyl plate approximately 3-4 feet tall, secured to the wall next to the main door. While a vintage piece of iconography that would be consistent with the general atmosphere of the bar, it provides poor visibility at street level, and would be difficult to see from a moving vehicle, especially a night when business for bars tends to be elevated.
The sign
This project would place a neon sign over the main door, against the curved roof section. Designed to resemble the leaning man from the bar's original signage, it would appear to be leaning against the roof, holding a lit sign announcing the presence of a bar, easily visible and distinguishable to oncoming traffic at night. The sign would be mirrored so as to be easily readable from the north.
