Personal icon
When considering the possibility of a career in design, one of the things that invariably comes up is self-marketing. As a journalist by training, self-marketing and self-promotion has always felt...weird for me. However, when promoting a service, in this case myself, one thing that invariably helps is iconography. To that end, for this week's Journal entry, I designed a personal logo for use on items such as business cards.
The logo
When it comes to iconography, I am a big fan of simple, clean designs, that don't have a lot of noise going on and are, thus, easy to remember. Therefore, the logo is simply my first and last initials, laid over each other, with the "B" off center to create a natural "reading flow," guiding the viewer's eye to the right across the logo. The "T" was constructed utilizing 60-point line strokes, and the "B" is a 256-point Impact font, after attempts to draw the "B" did not pan out.
I had experimented with alternating the color in the spots where the "B" and the "T" met, however I scrapped it for looking too weird. The dark grey background represents both a personal preference for the color, and also a complimentary color for the bright red "T," and would represent a potential color for a business card. The black and red for the letters used were chosen to nod towards my status as a UGA Ph.D. student .
